You are about to take a positive and progressive step that will provide you with mental and physical benefits for you which includes confidence, awareness, self-defence and discipline. Our practitioners at Senki Dojo achieve all of the above and more by training in the Martial Arts of the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. (Martial Arts of the Samurai/Shinobi Warrior) What is Budo Taijutsu? The easiest way to define this, is to look at the name in a slightly reversed fashion: Taijutsu is a Japanese term, which literary translates as body skills (skills with the body). In our Martial art, we primarily use the term taijutsu to refer to the empty-hand or unarmed training.
The word budo is a term that refers to the ancient and traditional martial arts (warrior arts) of Japan.

BU: means- Military, Warrior Do: means-Way, path Literally these mean: “The Martial arts skills of the warrior” Budo Taijutsu epitomises the full concept of self-protection through authentic and original warrior survival and self-defence systems. These provide the practitioner with more than just a few techniques to use, as it deals at every level to survive and prevail when faced by danger in today’s society. What does the Martial Art cover? The Martial art that we practice is combined of nine Traditional Warrior Schools, (six of them are Samurai and three Shinobi "Ninjutsu") each of these schools have on their own right specific skills and combat methods. Some of the skills are strikes, throws, locks, holds, pressure points, ground survival skills, weapon training, disarming, control and restrain, evasive tactics… All these Warrior traditions have been passed down for more than 1'000 years and the history can be traced back on a direct lineage from Grandmaster to student. Our Grandmaster and head of the Bujinkan school of Budo Taijutsu is Dr Masaaki Hatsumi. Dr Masaaki Hatsumi established the Bujinkan in order to preserve the teachings and skills of these warrior traditions and for individuals to have a better understanding of the true meaning of Japanese Martial Arts. What is Ninjutsu? Ninjutsu is the Martial art skill of the Shinobi or traditionally called "Ninja". The Kanji "Ninja" is composed of a heart and a blade, this could be translated as a person with endurance, perseverance. It can also be seen as; "A person with the ability to focus their heart and mind in any task with the efficiency of a blade" In Japanese the word can be applied to someone who does covert, infiltration, secret operations and Martial arts. The Ninja were very succesfull trained warriors that took also roles as spies, bodyguards and protectors. There are at least 18 skills that Ninja was proficient in. These skills made the Ninja succeed and adapt in many different types of life threatening scenarious. It is generally accepted that most of the methos found in Ninjutsu originated in China, as after the fall of the T'ang dynasty many outcast warriors, philosophers, priests and strategists escaped to Japan to avoid punishment and persecution. One of the strategy books and school of though that begun in China is the Sun Tzu's -"The Art of War". It is believed that these influences combined with the skills of the native warriors of Japan shaped what became to be known as Ninjutsu. How effective are these Martial Arts? The training at Senki Dojo focuses on the adaptation of traditional techniques used on real battles but also on a modern context. The techniques are learned gradually from the bases so that they can easily be adapted into different scenarios, opponents, situations and environment.
It is not a coincidence that a lot of Security Operatives and organisations from all over the world have found benefits training on these skills. This is not a competitive sport. The truth is that there is no one style that is appropriate for everyone. As individuals, we make decisions based largely upon personal preferences and experiences. Choosing a martial art is no different, you need to find your way and the method that meets your individual requirements and best suits your needs. How fit do I have to be? Through training and practice gradually you will build on your strength and minimise your weaknesses. The concepts and skills of Budo Taijutsu are used to take advantage over the opponent’s strength and weak points to survive the attack regardless of your size, age or gender. Females can protect themselves effectively using these skills, as they might not rely on brute strength. In our Martial Art we don’t just look at the physical abilities but also the mental ability is important in order to make rapid responses and be able to act accordingly depending on the unexpected threatening situation. What is Senki Dojo? Senki Dojo is a Martial Arts group stablished by David Castan after been given direct permission by Grandmaster Hatsumi Sensei in Japan to teach these skills. The name "Senki "was given to David by Hatsumi Sensei and literally means; "One Thousand Demons". The name came about when David achieved the 5th Dan test and became the 1'000 person to achieve this. The name was used in our Martial Arts school to make reference to that special day and to the meaning of the scroll written by Hatsumi Sensei that was given to David. One of the meanings of our training at Senki Dojo is for the practicioner to face their Demons at training to become a better person outside the Dojo. Some of these Demons can be anger, fear... "The Dojo is a place to rectify your weakpoints and become a better person" Senki Dojo is recognised by the Bujinkan Dojo, Japan to train in the authentic and historically methods of the Samurai/Shinobi Martial Arts.
